Let’s be honest, when you live in Sydney, it can be hard to leave it because we have it all here!

So much so that according to Tourism Australia, in just 2018 alone over 10 million domestic visitors and 4 million international visitors popped in for a visit.

But, as a Sydneysider, when’s the last time you really stopped and took it all in?

Here are the best day trips from South Sydney

So, if you’d like to play tourist, no matter the weather, here’s where you should go.

Royal National Park

Royal National Park is only 45 minutes from Sydney CBD (and a cool ten minutes from our workshop here in Kirrawee – be jealous!).

While it’s one of the best day trips from South Sydney, it’s also a great place to go for a hike or picnic after dropping off your car here at Sutherland.

Highlights of the park include the Instagram-famous Figure 8 Pools, the Coast Track, and Wedding Cake Rock. And, if you feel so inclined, some of the best bird watching in Sydney.

Canberra

Some of us might have visited our nation’s capital on a school trip eons ago, but when is the last time you saw what Canberra actually has to offer? We’ve all heard the old saying, “I spent a week in Canberra one afternoon,” but that doesn’t mean the capital city (an easy three hour drive away!) is boring.

It just means there is plenty to do there (and most of it is free!).

Port Stephens

Port Stephens Bay might actually give our beloved Sydney Harbour a run for her money.

At about 200 kilometers north of the CBD, the bay is nearly twice the size of the harbour and boasts plenty of pristine coastline for hiking, water sports, and relaxing with friends and family.

It’s also one of the country’s top fishing destinations!
